1. The Bramble, a spring cocktail in England

The Bramble is a very fruity cocktail with tangy notes of blackberries and lemon. It fits perfectly on slightly warmer spring evenings as well as really hot summer days and makes a very good impression especially because of its beautiful color in the glass.

How was the Bramble born?

The Bramble (from the English blackberry), was invented in London in the 1980s by Dick Bradsell . It was the result of a wave of trendy cocktails that were sweeping the bar scene at the time. The Bramble was and still is popular because it is easy and quick to mix and it tastes great.

In addition, the gradient effect, in which the blackberry juice flows through the glass, is a great way to attract attention. The first Bramble was served at Freds Club, a bar in downtown London, in 1984.

The secrets of a successful Bramble

The Bramble thrives on fresh ingredients, so frozen blackberries or lemon juice from the supermarket are not suitable ingredients. It is the strong, slightly acidic aroma of a freshly squeezed lemon that gives this cocktail its sour berry taste.

The Bramble cuts a fine figure in an old-fashioned glass, the colour gradient from light red to dark purple is very well highlighted by the ornaments of the crystal glass. Garnished with a fresh blackberry, the look really makes you want to try it.

For a better visual effect, prefer ice cubes to crushed ice, although this ultimately has no importance for the taste.

The ingredients of Bramble

  • Bombay Gin
  • Blackberry cream
  • Lemon juice
  • Sugar syrup

2. The Mai Tai, the classic rum cocktail from California

The Mai Tai sounds a bit Asian, but it was invented in America and has a Caribbean feel to it. Like many other popular cocktails, it is a classic that has been popular for decades and is enjoyed around the world. It comes in several variations.

Mai Tai

Mai Tai, a journey from Hawaii to San Francisco

Like most popular cocktail recipes, the Mai Tai originated in the United States. It was reportedly invented by Victor Bergeron (nicknamed Trader Vic) in 1944 in the trendy American metropolis of San Francisco.

According to legend, Victor came up with the cocktail recipe for two friends in Hawaii. After drinking it, they excitedly exclaimed, "Mai Tai Roa Ae," which roughly translates to "not of this world and simply the best." The Mai Tai was born.

A trip to the Caribbean

Made with orgeat syrups and fruity lemon, with a good dose of rum and Grand Marnier, this classic cocktail will delight you. Whether for a party, an evening with friends or a barbecue, the Mai Tai remains a must!

The Mai Tai is aromatic and direct. It is not a long drink with a lot of fruit juice. All the power of the rum is used, the sour character of the lemon juice grabs you and the liqueur and syrup bring the flavor up in the background

Mai Tai Ingredients

  • Jamaican Rum
  • Grand Marnier
  • Apricot liqueur

3. The Bloody Mary, the timeless classic.

The American classic made with vodka and tomato juice is still one of the most famous cocktails. A classic cocktail for anyone who likes it spicy, hot and salty.

The story of “Bloody Mary”

The name "Bloody Cocktail" goes back to several stories. One of them says that an American actor named George Jessel is credited as the originator. In 1927, after a long night of partying at a bar in Florida, George Jessel mixed the drink from an open bottle of vodka to offer his guests a hangover cure. After a friend named Mary stained her white dress with the red drink, George gave her the name "Bloody Mary."

How to enhance tomato juice

In the United States in particular, the Bloody Mary is a popular brunch drink and is considered the perfect cocktail after a long night of drinking. In this country, however, the cocktail is often underestimated, with most people associating tomato juice more with diet or detox cures. However, if you mix the vegetable juice with vodka, lemon juice, sweet and spicy Worcestershire sauce and Tabasco, the result is a great aperitif that you should definitely try.

We also decorate our glass with a stick of celery, olives, basil leaves or a chili pepper for the bravest.

Bloody Mary Ingredients

  • Vodka
  • Tomato juice
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • Tabasco
  • Celery salt
  • Lemon juice

4. The Gimlet, the cocktail of private detective Philip Marlowe

There’s nothing simpler or more refreshing than the classic Gimlet. Made with gin, fresh lime juice, and sugar, the cocktail is classified as a gin sour, which puts it in good company with other drinks like the Daiquiri. The Gimlet is considered a classic with gin.

The Gimlet: a sailor's story

In the late 19th century, the British Royal Navy used lime juice as a remedy for the vitamin deficiency disease "scurvy." It is said that the general of the medical department, "Sir Thomas Gimlette," administered the mixture of lime juice and gin as medicine to his colleagues. Incidentally, the literal translation of a gimlet from English would be "wood drill."

Another theory about the origin of the name: the mixture was stored on ships in barrels, which were pierced with such a tool by sailors. The origin of the Gimlet Cocktail is not entirely clear, but it tastes all the better.

The subtle alliance of Gin and lemon juice

The Gimlet can also be made with vodka. This was especially common in the 1980s and 1990s. But as gin became more popular with drinkers, gin took over its rightful place in the Gimlet. Gin is a natural companion to lime, and the dry, botanical nature of the spirit adds structure to the drink while keeping the sugar in check.

There is hardly a cocktail as simple as the Gimlet. Only three ingredients are needed to create a very tasty drink.

Ingredients that make up the Gimlet

  • Dry Gin
  • Lemon juice
  • Lime juice
  • Sugar

5. The Champs Élysées, a cocktail for strolling, but with class!

In cocktail circles, the Champs-Élysées is known as a classic cocktail that comes to life with the help of two French spirits: Cognac and Chartreuse.

A stroll on the most beautiful avenue in the world

The Champs Elysees Cocktail may not reveal much in writing about its origins. It was supposedly developed in 1930 by Henry Craddok in Britain and was simply given the pompous name of Parisian boulevard because of its two main French ingredients, cognac and Chartreuse.

Chartreuse and Cognac, a “So French” blend

The Champs Elysees is similar to the Sidecar, another concoction that Paris has introduced to the cocktail world. For this cocktail, using a great cognac is recommended (Paris obliges!). Craddock didn’t specify whether to use the green Chartreuse, used in drinks like the Final Rye, or the yellow Chartreuse, used in drinks like the Diamondback. The choice of green Chartreuse depends on how sweet you want the Champs Elysees to be. The yellow is slightly sweeter than the green. Make no mistake: just like the Champs Elysees, both versions make a wonderful impression.

Whether you have been to Paris or not, the Champs Élysées cocktail evokes its splendor and beauty.

Ingredients from the Champs Elysées

  • Camus Cognac
  • Yellow Chartreuse
  • Sugar syrup
  • Lemon juice
  • Bitters
